Lee Fritch's watercolor "West Virginia Hills" has been accepted in the third annual Paint America-Mini 50 competition. Paint America is a non-profit organization formed to support and promote artists and the visual arts at the state and national levels. (This is a regrouping of the former National Arts for the Parks organization).

The accepted 50 paintings will be touring several galleries throughout the USA for up to two years. There will also be a printed show catalog and a website displaying the paintings. More information about the participating galleries and shows can be accessed at www.paintamerica.org.

We visited Mexico in 2005…down into the interior which provides a much better impression of the country than the border towns. Friendly and industrious people, clean cities and towns, festive surroundings . We want to go back. One evening these girls danced for us on the roof top garden of our hotel. What energy…and I tried to capture that in this painting.

"Death Valley Derelict"

In March 2006 we were hiking off-trail in Death Valley, Cal. and came across this skeleton of a very old truck, probably 1928 vintage. It is near where the Borax exhibit is located. Just begged to be painted....in the studio from a photo.

“Lassen Volcanic Park”

The artist and his wife visited Lassen National Park in September 2000 to paint and hike for several days. Mount Lassen erupted a la Mount St. Helens back in 1915 and is located about 60 miles due east of Redding, California. This is a studio painting from reference photos and sketches made on the trip. It shows the mountain as seen from Lake Manzanita.

This painting was a finalist in the top 200 at the prestigious National Arts for the Parks show in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 2001. It also won the Springston Award of merit at the West Virginia Watercolor Society Aqueous 2002 exhibition.

This very nice beach is in north western Mexico on the Gulf of California, near Guaymas. We visited this beach at the end of our two week tour of Mexico which also included the famous and spectacular Copper Canyon. This is a studio painting from my photo references taken while on-site.

Our trip to Greece in 1998 began with a short stay in Athens, then on to several small fishing villages. One was delightful and quaint Karystos on the eastern coast. The main downtown street fronted on the area where working boats pulled up with their catch and harbored there for the night. Subject matter abounded for many paintings like this studio piece from my own reference photo. I could not resist the bright red-orange of the boat contrasted against the cool blue water. Eye-candy!

In Oct. 2005 this won an award of merit at the Foothills Art Festival in Ohio.
