      This derelict structure is located at Washington Bottom, WV near Parkersburg.  (Land surveyed by good-old George himself.)  It has been abandoned for decades, but still makes an interesting subject matter for art.  This original watercolor was painted on-location.

The subject is a waterfall along the south coast of Iceland near the village of Skogar.  This is a studio painting done from reference material gathered while we visited Iceland (for the second time) in August 2003 to hike for 12 days with a group.  This work was accepted in two juried shows.

It was audacious to even attempt this subject, but it is hard to ignore a beautiful sunset.  An artist, just like a photographer, wants to capture it for repeated viewing.  The fluidity and transparency of watercolors is a good fit for this scene.  With proper choice of pigments, careful attention to textures and edges, the glow was achieved.  Doesn't happen often!
