In 2003 we visited Portugal with a well known tour company. We stopped at Sagres along the Atlantic coast at this ancient fortress. One of the buildings was originally constructed as a chapel, but was later used to store ammunition! I took a photo on this cloudy and windy day. When I decided to do this studio painting  I was later struck by the mysterious lady in the black coat that I caught on the film. What is her story?

This lighthouse is on the Atlantic shore of Portugal, a place we visited in April 2003.  I used artistic license to create a colorful sunset to provide some drama to this studio painting.
