Spring and Summer 2005
In April Lee and his wife traveled to Guadalajara and Puerto Valletta Mexico for 15 days to learn more about the Aztec, Mayan and Mexican culture. Some time for on-location sketching was possible…three small pen/ink and watercolor wash works were completed as saleable works.
Two have been already sold. “Guadalajara” #05.024 was done on paper made as a by product of making tequila.
The other was done on regular watercolor paper #05.021 “Santa Maria de Gracia”.
A third is still available #05.020 “Dome of St. Maria Church”, 8.5” x 5.5” image, $25 shrinkwrapped over foam core, free USA shipping.
The trip, our first to Mexico, was very educational. We found the people cordial, friendly and helpful. Since the trip, one studio work has been completed of the dancers who entertained us on the rooftop patio at our hotel. "Mexican Dancers".
This large piece will be entered into a major show next spring. It will not be for sale on this site until after the exhibit. Lee plans to do several more studio works from reference material gathered on this trip.
In early July a four day painting/hiking trip was taken to the Potomac Highlands of WV-the Seneca, Spruce Knob and Canaan Valley recreational areas. Several watercolors were done on-location. One of them (“Fishing at Seneca”) will be part of a show at Tamarack in Beckley, WV. See Schedule section of the website for more details.
In mid-July the Fritch and McGraw families met at Snowshoe Resort near Cass WV. to celebrate Lee and Pat’s 50th wedding anniversary! While on the deck of the rented house at 4,300 feet on the side of a mountain, Lee did the small watercolor #05.036 “Snowshoe Pines” which recently sold in the web gallery.
Another studio watercolor #05.039 “Into the Woods” was inspired by a scene observed during an 8 mile hike (on their Golden Anniversary day) on the Greenbrier Trail. This piece will be part of the Tamarack show mentioned above.
